A major part of Panama’s population is a mixture of whites with indigenous, which is known as mestizos. Still, there is a smaller group of unmixed European whites.
The mixture of white and ingenious with African ancestry also represents a significant portion of the population. Nevertheless, several indigenous communities remain and maintain their custom, including the creation of clothing, and handcrafts.
The Afro-colonials, Afro-Caribbeans, Chinese, Jews, Arabs, North Americans, Indians, and other ethnic groups also produce a colorful scene in a rich cultural environment.
The main language in Panamá is Spanish. However, in the capital city, Colón, Bocas del Toro, and in the expat communitiess, it´s common to find people that undertand and speak English
Many expat groups however, conserve their culture and language, but yet attend bilingual (Spanish/English) schools.
